PFAG Hosts Successful Annual General Congress

The Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) hosted an immensely successful Annual General Congress on Monday 23rd December 2024 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.

The meeting saw delegates coming together from near and wide to discuss player welfare issues, vote on ammended statutes and endorse proposals intended to champion the development of Ghanaian professional footballers.

 

The much anticipated event which brought together representatives from various professional football clubs in the country, served as the perfect platform for in-depth deliberations on matters of shared importance within the playing fraternity of Ghana football.

In attendance at the day-long event were the President of the PFAG, Samuel Osei-Kufior, General Secretary, Anthony Bafoe, Deputy General Secretary Solomon Torson as well as legendary ex-players Augustine Arhinful, Sam Johnson, Samuel Tetteh-Zugah and Emmanuel Agyeman Badu among a host of other stars who graced the event with their presence and key contributions.

 

Representatives from clubs plying their trade in the Ghana Premier League, Division One League, Division Two League and the Women’s Leagues were present in their numbers to participate in the expertly organised congress anchored by the PFAG.

 

The General Secretary of the Ghana Football Association, Prosper Harrison Addo delivered a solidarity message on behalf of the GFA, the administrative body overseeing football in the country.

He assured all present of the Football Association’s commitment to work hand in hand with the PFAG for the betterment of the fortunes of players in the country. He confirmed that serious consideration was currently being given to the Standardised Player Contracts proposal that had been tabled before the GFA by the leadership of the PFAG.

Mr Addo further spoke out on the ills of getting involved in sports betting as well as sounding a note of caution about being wary of unscrupulous persons posing as player agents whose sole motive was to exploit unsuspecting players.

He ended his submission by assuring members that going forward, the GFA will be encouraging more female involvement in the sport as was already happening in the PFAG. He also promised that the GFA will take a more responsive stance to players especially former professionals who have represented the nation during the course of their playing careers.

 

In his keynote address, the General Secretary of the PFAG, Mr Anthony Baffoe highlighted the significant progress made by the PFAG since its inception and the numerous victories the Association continued to chalk on behalf of its members.

 

He encouraged the delegates present to send back the numerous positive messages they had heard at Congress including the legal battles won by the PFAG, the newly rolled out Insurance Package by the PFAG in conjunction with the State Insurance Company (SIC), the revamped PFAG Life After Football Insurance Policy to be managed by the Enterprise Insurance Group and the latest innovation by the PFAG, the PFAG mobile app!

 

Delegates were extremely pleased with the day’s activities and rounded up the day with a collective commitment to fully immerse themselves in the course being charted by the PFAG for the good of the players.

 

The PFAG will like to extend its sincere appreciation to all participants, the Board, stakeholders and organizers of the 2024 Annual General Congress for a successful congregation which will surely live long in the memory.

 

Whether it is negotiating a collective bargaining agreement, addressing a legal grievance on behalf of a player, or providing life and career guidance for a player’s benefit, the PFAG will always remain a dependable mother body for all Ghanaian professional footballers.
