AFCON 2021 ENDS IN CAMEROUN

The Teranga Lions of Senegal clinched their first ever African Nations Cup Title after a hard-faugh penalty shootout triumph over Egypt’s Pharoahs on Sunday. The keenly contested final match at the Stade Olembe brought down the curtains on what was widely regarded as an exciting 33rd edition of the African Nations Cup Tournament (AFCON 2021) held in Cameroun.

Player of the Tournament, Sadio Mane decisively struck the winning penalty to ensure that Senegal became the 15th different side to conquer the continent in its passion, football. The grand finale, played in front of some of the world’s biggest personalities climaxed a well-organized month of African football excellence as Cameroon excelled as hosts of the cream of African football for the first time in fifty years.

Even in the face of the unfortunate stampede that claimed eight lives in the nation’s capital, the spirit of togetherness and African football was undeniably on show throughout the tournament.

Despite the disappointment of a painful early exit, the PFAG is still full of faith in the ability of our Black Stars to excel in the qualifying process and in the actual competition come AFCON 2023 slated for the Ivory Coast.

We extend our congratulations to the AFCON 2021 organizing team, the Cameroonian football fraternity, the wider African football family, and above all the players who graced the pitches and entertained us all throughout the football fiesta.

The PFAG continues to stand with them and for them.
