Ghana’s African Cup of Nations qualifying fixtures against Sierra Leone have been called off after World Football governing body, FIFA upheld its suspension of the Sierra Leonean Football Association.
The Sierra Leone authorities had hoped to get the provisional ban lifted by FIFA, but were unable to meet a Tuesday deadline to reinstate their ousted Football Association president Isha Johansen who is accused of corruption by the country’s government officials.
The cancellation of the scheduled double-header fixtures in Kumasi and Freetown on the 11th and 14th of October, poses questions about the state of play in AFCON 2019 qualifying group F.
CAF has yet to comment on whether Ghana will be awarded the six points on offer for both games, and whether the qualification format in the group will be altered with Sierra Leone now barred from partaking in the qualification process.
