A brand new season of the Ghana Premier League is off and running; and the chase has already began to unseat defending champions Wa All Stars from their lofty perch on top of the Ghana club football log.
After the heartache of AFCON 2017, local football fans will be expecting lots of excitement as they throng the various match venues over the course of the season.
Traditionally heralded for unearthing prodigious talents, this season’s GPL promises to be no different with compelling and keenly contested matches lined up for the viewing pleasure of all fans.
It remains to be seen if the title will remain in Wa for a second successive year, or if the chasing pack spearheaded by Aduana Stars, Kumasi Asante Kotoko, Ashgold and Accra Hearts of Oak will put up an almighty fight to wrestle away the league’s top prize. Stakeholders will also be keenly monitoring the progress of the league’s latest trio of new entrants, Bolga Stars, Elmina Sharks and seasoned campaigners, Accra Great Olympics. Yet another pertinent question will be that of who sweeps away the top individual gong in the land following the departure of last season’s top marksman Latif Blessing.
With the dawn of the new season comes a renewed commitment from the Professional Footballers’ Association of Ghana (PFAG) to offer all support and input required to elevate domestic football to the next level of professionalism and achievement. It remains our conviction that together with various stakeholders and fans, we shall see the beautiful game make even greater strides on the local scene.
We wish all 16 participating teams the very best. With hard work, dedication and a will to succeed, we trust that you shall indeed meet your season’s objectives!
Let’s all contribute to, and enjoy a successful 2017 Ghana Premier League season.
As we say over here, “Agr) ne fam!”
