Cervical Cancer Awareness Month: What Women in Football Should Know

January is Cervical Cancer Awareness Month. Cervical cancer is preventable, yet many women are diagnosed late simply because they were not screened early.

The Basics

  • Cervical cancer is mainly caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus)
  • Early detection through screening can save lives
  • Many women have no symptoms in the early stages

What Female Footballers Should Do

Get screened (Pap smear or HPV test) every 3–5 years
Take the HPV vaccine if eligible
See a doctor if you notice unusual bleeding, pain, or discharge

Why It Matters

A healthy player performs better, recovers faster, and enjoys a longer career. Your health off the pitch is just as important as your fitness on it.

Our Message as a Football Union

We encourage clubs, players, and stakeholders to prioritize women’s health, support regular screening, and create safe spaces for health education.

Protect your health. Protect your career.
