As part of our commitment towards enhancing humanitarian efforts in line with our corporate social responsibility, the Professional Footballers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has partnered with former president of the Ghana Football Association Kwesi Nyantakyi to launch the ‘Prison Football Project’ at the Nswawam Prisons in Accra.
This commendable initiative aims to use football as a tool for reformation, empowerment, and reintegration of inmates of the Nswawam Medium Security Prison into society using the values of the beautiful game.
The launch of the Project was highlighted by the constellation of football stars who heeded the call of their mother body, the PFAG in extending their support to the worthy cause.
Led by the Association’s President, Samuel Osei Kuffour, and General Secretary, Anthony Baffoe, the PFAG delegation included renowned national stars including John Mensah, Kwame Ayew, Augustine Ahinful, Sam Johnson, Emmanuel Armah ‘Senegal’, Mallam Yahaya, Maxwell Konadu, and Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, among others.
Emmanuel Agyeman Badu and Saeed Adnan rolled back the years as they donned opposing jerseys to join in the lively friendly match between Blocks 2 and 3 which ended 2–0 in favour of Block 2.
The day’s activities ended with impassioned speeches admonishing the inmates to hang on to hope and aspire for better life outcomes once they were released from confinement. They were further encouraged to model their reformation after exceptional leaders such as Nelson Mandela, a one-time prisoner who rose to become President of the Republic of South Africa.
The group donated football kits, footballs, paraphenalia, bags of rice, meat, and monetary support which brought unbridled joy and an immense feeling of hope to all present in the facility.
